February Is National Children’s Dental Health Month!

The American Dental Association Declares February 2021 National Children’s Dental Health Month

Bringing awareness to your child’s dental health is one of the most important ideas we can promote. Children with regular, routine dental care are much less likely to have severe problems down the road. From check-ups to sealants to fillings, we want your child to have a happy, healthy mouth!

The 2021 Campaign Slogan: “Water, Nature’s Drink!”

The ADA recommends that kids drink mostly water to ensure they have healthier teeth. When your child drinks juice and soda all the time, the sugary residue from the liquid sits on the teeth and turns into damaging bacteria. Although juice and soda are fun, give them to your child once in a while and help them brush their teeth afterward.

Helpful Tips for Your Child’s Healthy Teeth

The ADA is promoting optimal oral health for every child, and part of that is knowing how to take care of teeth. Some of their tips include:

  • Brush teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss between teeth at least once a day.
  • Eat a healthy diet that focuses on nutrition and limits sugary liquids and snacks.
  • See your dentist regularly to prevent and treat oral disease.

Not only do you want your child to avoid cavities, but gum disease can also become a concern with poor dental hygiene. At Vaida Avery Dentistry, we focus on educating our young patients about brushing and flossing habits that can help them have healthy teeth for life.

What Do You Know About Children’s Dentistry?

Children’s dentistry is an important aspect of oral health. Your child should see a dentist around age 1. It’s also important to start caring for your child’s teeth and gums early on.

When your child is an infant, clean the gums with a soft, damp cloth after eating. Toddlers can use small toothbrushes with children’s toothpaste as they learn the correct way to brush their teeth.

Your child’s diet can also impact their oral health. For healthy teeth, choose foods high in calcium for snacks, like cheese, yogurt, and beans.
