Dental Implants

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium screw that can be placed in your jawbone and that acts as a substitute for a tooth root.  We can place a dental implant in either your upper or your lower jaw. The implant will then fuse with your bone and provide an anchor for your restoration tooth. Dental implants can be used in conjunction with one missing tooth or multiple missing teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Did you know that when you lose a tooth, you also lose the root for that tooth? The missing tooth root affects your jaw, causing it to lose bone density. This may cause your face to look withered or older than it is.

However, if you receive a dental implant, it acts as your tooth root, stimulating your jaw bone and keeping it healthy. The dental implant also anchors your artificial tooth to your jaw bone, and can last a lifetime.

How Will Dental Implants Affect My Teeth?

Teeth that are supported by dental implants look just like natural teeth. The restoration feels comfortable and natural and will allow you to eat and talk more easily. Finally, you will probably feel newly confident about your smile.

Dental Implant Process

Dr. Avery will create a treatment plan that is customized to you. She will discuss with you the implant procedure, recovery, and your expectations.

The implant process begins with the placement of the dental implant. This is a simple procedure that can be performed while you are under local anesthesia. Once the implant is in place, it will take about 3 to 6 months to heal and fully fuse to your jaw bone.

Typically, we will place a temporary crown while we are waiting for your implant to heal. In some cases, Dr. Avery will be able to place the permanent dental crown during your initial visit.

We can attach a bridge, crown, or denture to your new implants, depending on your needs.  The implant will provide a strong, secure foundation for your restoration.
